Ferrous Metal Treatment

The first fluxes for iron were developed in 1935. Desulphurisers, alloying briquettes and slag coagulants followed but the first major advance for Foseco was the development of blended graphite granular inoculants in 1962.

The next major innovation was the development of late-stream inoculation in 1979 with the launch of MSI equipment combined with carefully graded specialty inoculants. The inoculation effect achieved was significantly more powerful and more consistent.

Foseco has recently extended its range of in-stream inoculants to include lanthanum, barium and rare earth products in response to changes in foundry technology such as the increased use of steel scrap, more electric melting, lower nitrogen levels and a greater demand for process consistency.
