SMARTT - Controlled Melt Quality for Aluminium Foundries

We invite you to meet our foundry experts at our stand in hall 12, stand no. A01 / A02. There will be a Live Show presenting SMARTT every day.

SMARTT software offers various programs for rotary degassing and the operator simply defines a melt quality after treatment. SMARTT predicts the best treatment practice based on ambient conditions, melt temperature, rotor design and alloy composition. The treatment parameters are automatically transferred into the FDU MTS.
In conjunction with innovative rotor designs Foseco guarantees a constant quality level and reliable results. SMARTT not only controls degassing but together with forming gas any defined hydrogen level can be reached. A customised report system records all parameters.

The Live Show will run from 10:00 until 17:00 each day.

ecoMetals

The solutions awarded with the ecoMetals logo show visitors technological innovations for the future. The ecoMetals visions of the exhibitors at the Bright World of Metals today are the sustainable concepts and solutions of tomorrow. Companies that invest prudently in efficiency will also work more economically with lower energy and resource consumption.

GIFA / NEWCAST Technical Forum

The theme for the Forum is ‘The Bright World of Metals’ and will cover the state-of-the-art developments and innovations for the foundry industry. The Forum will take place in Hall 13 and entrance will be free-of-charge. Two Foseco papers have been confirmed for the Technical Forum.

Advances in Coating Technology: Inner Cleanliness

This paper focuses on a specially developed coating that shows a quantifiable improvement in the inner cleanliness in very complex engine component castings and will help the automotive industry to achieve even more stringent emission demands than the currently applied Euro 6 standard. Moreover, the improved cleanliness also extends the required service intervals, reducing downtime and increasing overall productivity.

Advances in the pouring of steel castings with a shrouded metal stream

This paper describes a new process that can be effectively applied in steel foundries. A shroud is positioned in the mould, the bottom of the shroud penetrates into a filter block located at the base of the mould. When the ladle is in position the shroud is mechanically lifted so there is a seal between the nozzle and the shroud, the shroud still penetrates into the filter block. This allows the metal to flow from the nozzle, into the filter block, and then to the runner whilst being protected from exposure to air and eliminating the potential for air aspiration. The Czech foundry UNEX now applies this shrouding principal to a range of high integrity and quality demanding castings. Dramatic quality and productivity improvements are achieved due to the elimination of oxide and bifilm formation within the casting process. In addition to improved surface quality of the castings, significant reduction of X-ray and ultrasonic detected defects are experienced.
